Pressure Sensitive Labels

Client:

Border’s Bookstores
Project: Labels for all coffee flavors

Example of:

Quality control and specific needs were not being met by previous vendor. The bags contain unground beans, and therefore have an uneven surface; there was difficulty in getting label adhesion to package. In addition, in packing, the beans were scraping off the ink on adjoining bags.

Challenges:

Find an adhesive that will keep labels firmly adhered through packing and shipping. Fulfill client’s request for metallic inks, which have inherent problems of consistency in color match and printability; inks must be durable enough to resist scraping and scratching. Because multiple product lines are produced in varying quantities, printing consistency must be held.

Strategy:

Draw on expertise of in-house ink technician to custom blend inks with special attention to consistency and readability. Maintain complete documentation for all ink formulas for all lines, so reprints will match previous runs. Employ more aggressive adhesive. Add protective laminate.

Results:

Each line features distinctively colored label, and colors of each run duplicate previous printings. Packages arrive in store locations undamaged, with labels whole and attached, for much more professional-looking, high quality display.
